‘Remote Operated Boat’ to clean lakes in Nagpur

Nagpur: Cleansing of Nagpur’s Futala, Ambazari and Sonegaon lakes will now be done by NMC through ‘Remote Operated Boat. The battery run boat has been provided to Nagpur Municipal Corporation by Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) under CSR Fund.

With the help of the ‘Remote Operated Boat, waste such as plastic, tree leaves floating in the lakes and other filth will be removed. The boat will be operated remotely from the rims of the lake. Once charged, the boat can be operated for 4-5 hours. During this time, cleaning of 4-5 km area can be done. For operating the boat, IOCL has appointed a technician. The boat has been purchased at tghe cost of Rs 29 lakh.

With the help of the boat, cleaning operation of the lake will be undertaken twice a week. Futala Lake will be cleaned on Monday and Tuesday while Ambazari Lake on Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, Sonegaon Lake will be cleaned.

According to sources, NMC has requested Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. To provide five ‘Remote Control Floating Boats’ under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds.
