“I do not need celebrities to endorse my products, since I alone suffice in doing it. People all over India believe in me” Baba Ramdev has said often. And indeed, he is the top ‘model’ for almost all his ads.

Well, a Hardwar court does not quite believe in the baba’s utterances; in fact on the contrary they have fined him Rs. 11 lkahs for “misbranding and putting up misleading advertisements” of thier products. ADM Lalit Narayan Mishra has also passed an order asking them to pay up within a month.

Patanjali Ayurveda was found to be making claims in its ads that all its products are manufactured in its own units – this is misbranding as the information is false.

The case against Patanjali had been filed in 2012 by the District Food Safety Department after their products had failed quality tests in the random sampling that the dept does.
