The much talked Rajiv Gandhi Chaitanya Rally, aimed at boosting morale of Congressmen and also chances in Assembly elections, stands cancelled. A fleet of around 150-200 vehicles under the leadership of Ranjit Deshmukh were planned to leave Nagpur for Aurangabad on Tuesday (August 19) as a part of the Rally. The Aurangabad-Nagpur Rally was scheduled to be taken out on August 20 but has been put off in view of interviews of aspiring candidates being held till August 20. The interviews are being conducted by MPCC in Mumbai and Congress leadership itself denied permission for the Rally, according to close aides of Ranjit Deshmukh. The Rally could be taken out at a later date.

On the other hand, if the close aides of Deshmukh are to be believed, the Rally would be taken out only after the Congress high command assures Ranjit Deshmukh and his son Amol the party tickets for West Nagpur and Ramtek constituencies in the forthcoming Assembly elections. The sources further said that at present Ranjit Deshmukh is in Delhi and opened a front for bagging the tickets.

Meanwhile, the men who had been ‘contracted’ to gather crowds of workers for the Rally have been left outraged with sudden cancellation of the Rally. Now, their chances of earning easy money during the Rally have suddenly vanished into thin airs.
