Rains return with hopes for farmers, citizens

NAGPUR: The monsoon rains made a good comeback on Wednesday after a gap of almost three weeks of its arrival in the region. Nagpurians were experiencing summer-like heat since last two-three days. The weather started changing since last evening and it started raining since Wednesday morning, bringing much relief to the people.

Two weeks of June witnessed a dry spell and farmers and common citizens were desperately waiting for the rains. Sowing has completely stopped due to absence of rainfall in the Vidarbha region. Nagpur district had recorded good rainfall at the onset of monsoon but the rains had almost vanished since then. The region is expected to receive good rains in the next 48 hours.

As per Agriculture Department, Nagpur district has registered 12.64% sowing this season. Sowing has not started in Nagpur city and Ramtek region. The Agriculture Department has advised farmers not to hurry and to wait for sufficient rains to start the sowing.
