Purti Power and Sugar Co employees strikeNagpur: Trouble is brewing in Purti Power and Sugar Ltd as the employees, who have reportedly been deprived of salaries since the past three months, have given a “Kamband” (No work) call to be effective from January 1, 2016.

The office-bearers of Employees Union claimed that despite several representations and applications the Management of Purti Power and Sugar Ltd, based in Khursapar (Bela) in Umred Tehsil, has repeatedly failed to make salaries of the workers regularly every month.

The non-payment of salaries regularly has led to discontent among the employees. Subsequently, the Union organized a gate meeting on December 15, participated by 250-300 workers, and gave a “Kamband” call from January 1, 2016.

The Union further said that one of the workers Sunil Champatrao Wankar, a Fitter in Electricity Department, who took lead in planning the agitation, was transferred on deputation by the management.

Around 400-500 employees work in Purti Power and Sugar Ltd, on regular basis but since the past 1-2 years, the employees are not being paid their salaries on the scheduled date – 7 of every month.

This irregular payment of salaries put the employees in lot of problems in their day-to-day livelihood. The office-bearers of the Union met the management and demanded regular salaries and payment of arrears with 10 percent interest. But the management failed to too meet the employees’ demands. Hence the “Kamband” call, said the Union.

When asked about the problem, the Manager of Purti Power and Sugar Ltd, Atul Bande said that soon a discussion with senior officials and Directors of the company will be held and the issue will be resolved in the next 2-3 days. Financial crisis has led to irregular payment of salaries but the situation will improve. The situation of workers going on strike will not arrive, claimed the Manager.
