PSI of Nagpur Rural Police trapped by ACB for Rs 45,000 bribe

Nagpur: A Police Sub-Inspector with Nagpur Rural Police was trapped by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday.

According to ACB, PSI Dilip Pundlik Sapate (57), resident of Friends Colony, Nagpur, and attached to Bela Police Station was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 45,000 as bribe from a transport contractor. The accused police officer had allegedly demanded a Rs 75,000 bribe to allow transport of illegally excavated sand.

The sources said that the PSI Sapate was allegedly harassing the contractor-cum-transporter accusing him of supplying sand to some traders dealing in building materials. The accused PSI demanded Rs 75,000 from the transporter for not initiating action against him. Later the deal was fixed for Rs 45,000, said the sources.

Fed up with frequent harassment, the contractor lodged a complaint with the ACB. Subsequently, the ACB sleuths verified the complaint and trapped the PSI Sapate after he accepted the bribe amount of Rs 45,000. Later, a case under relevant Sections of Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against the accused PSI.

The trap action was carried out by Deputy Superintendent of Police Yogita Chafle and her team including PIs Varsha Mate, Ashish Chaudhary, ASI Surendra Shirsat, NPCs Anil Bahire, Amol Menghre, Woman Police Constable Asmita Mallewar, and driver Harshal Bharadkar under the guidance of SP (ACB) Rakesh Ola and Addl SP Madhukar Gite.
