Nagpur: Sitabuldi Police on Thursday arrested a property dealer for allegedly raping a 23-year-old school teacher from Dhule district in a Mahindra Scorpio SUV. Identified as Rajendra Vishwambhar Thorat (45), the accused is a resident of Shivkripa Housing Society, Ingole Nagar, Wardha Road.
The victim told police that her school chairman had asked her to give a packet of jaggery to Thorat when she was returning to her native place from Madhya Pradesh.
On November 11, 2021, she reached Nagpur and was to board a private bus to return to Dhule district.
At MP Bus Stand, Thorat came to collect the packet in the evening. He asked her to accompany him for a cup of tea saying that her school chairman was like his elder brother. He then took her in a Mahindra Scorpio SUV (MH-31/CN-6901) to an isolated place near Sadar Police Station and raped her. On the basis of the victim’s complaint, police registered a rape case against Thorat.
Cops seized Mahindra Scorpio SUV and cellphone of Thorat and obtained remand for his custodial interrogation till January 8.
The arrest was made by Senior PI Atul Sabnis, PI Amol Kachore, PSI Kondiba Kejgir, ASI Vinod Tiwari, HC Omprakash Bhartiya, NPC PreetamYadav,WPC Komal and PC Atmaram under the supervision of senior police officials. WPSIVanjari is conducting further investigations.
