Nagpur: To mark the 10th anniversary of Zero Gravity, a youth volunteers’ network, run by Dr Shrikant Jichkar Foundation, a “Project Happiness” was organized in all its glory at Sandipani School Ground, Hazaripahad, on Sunday, November 25.

This year’s carnival saw more than 1000 children, from shelters all over Nagpur — Govt. Boys School, Shaskiya Mulinche/Mulanche Nirikshan Gruha, Dicescion, Shraddhanand Balgruha, Bal Sadan, Vasundhara Charitable Society, Nagpur Madhyamik Vidyalaya, Home for Aged and Handicapped, Bahujan Hitaay Vidyarthi (Boys and Girls), Yuva Jyoti, Apang Balvikas, Akhil Bharitya Apang, Railway Janmandal High School — keeping with the Project’s motive “Maximum happiness to maximum number of people” with vibrant colours which took the happiness quotient of the children to a higher level.

It was a heart-warming sight to see kids of all ages take part in the inventive games like Reindeer Ring Toss, Happy Feet Race, Basket Ball Fun to name a few and relish the mouth-watering delicacies. Besides this, there was a Volunteer Dance, DJ and Live Music which was thoroughly enjoyed by all children. Needless to say, they danced, sang and enjoyed to their content leaving with hearts filled with memories, and eyes gleaming with happiness and hope for the future.

This has been a labour of love from around 500 of their volunteers who have worked hard untiringly to ensure that no stone is left unturned in making this event the grand affair that it has come to be. Right from doing all the decorations in-house, creating the games to organizing everything for the event, they have put in their best efforts for this project which has turned out to be a life changing experience for them. What’s commendable is that all the decoration work is hand-made by the volunteers, where the maximum decoration is done using biodegradable and recycled waste which is nature friendly.

The annual events – ‘Project Happiness’– is an extravaganza of happiness, a one-of its kind initiative. This is a fun-filled carnival that is organized for children from orphanages, underprivileged homes, shelter homes and specially-abled children who rarely get to experience the small pleasures of life that we take for granted. An environment full of entertainment and games is created so that they can forget about their worldly struggles for a while and just be happy and content as the kids they are supposed to be.
