Nagpur: Nagpur Gyan Vani was a popular educational FM Radio Channel. IGNOU was operating 37 such stations across the country. It was stopped 3 years back but again it was inaugurated on 23 Dec at the hands of Prof. Kapil Kumar, Director, Electronic Media Production Centre (EMPC), IGNOU, New Delhi.

Gyan Vani broadcasts on 105.6 MHz and will broadcast the programmes from 6 am to 10 am and 6 pm to 10 pm in evening.

In the Inaugural session Prof Kapil Kumar informed that the Gyan Vani stations were started at Varanasi, Hyderabad, Delhi and now at Nagpur. It is meant for spreading education in all fields. Its programmes like tribal welfare, stress management etc help in nation building. He further informed that the IGNOU study material is prepared by the best experts in the country and it is available to everyone freely on E-Gyankosh.

Dr P Sivaswaroop, Regional Director in his welcome address said that IGNOU follows “Reaching the Unreached” concept and is educating the unreached sections like Prisoners, Tribals of Gadchiroli, Commercial Sex Workers (CSWs), Transgenders etc. Gyan Vani will be a new dimension in reaching the unreached sections. This radio will broadcast programmes not only limited to class room studies but also general education programmes like Nutrition, Cleanliness, Hygiene, Consumer Awareness etc. He said that soon phone in programme also will be started for increasing meaningful education through radio.

Yashwant Chiwande, Station Director, All India Radio expressed his happiness at the restart of Gyan Vani.

Dr. Nurul Hasan, Assistant Regional Director conducted the programme. Neeraj Nakhate, Assistant Station Manager, Gyan Vani Nagpur proposed a vote of thanks.

A good number of teachers like Dr Dharmesh Dhawankar, Baban Nakhale, Dr Vandana Khushlani, many Doordarshan, All India Radio and IGNOU officials attended the function.
