Nagpur: In a surprising development, the Governor has appointed Dr. Vinayak Deshpande, who is holding the post of Pro Vice Chancellor of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur university (RTMNU) since the past six months, as Acting Vice Chancellor. The Governor’s Office on Friday, October 10 sent a fax to Nagpur University appointing Dr. Vinayak Deshpande as new Acting VC.
Prior to holding the post of acting Pro VC, Dr. Deshpande was serving as the Head of Department of Business Management at the university and was also the Management Council Member.
The Divisional Commissioner Anoop Kumar had taken the charge of Acting Vice Chancellor of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University after Dr. Vilas Sapkal resigned on March 30, 2014.
Highlights of Anoop Kumar’s tenure as Acting Vice Chancellor:
One of the most important priorities of Anoop Kumar was to hold the delayed 100th Convocation of RTMNU. The same was held last month on September 26, with former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam gracing the occasion. He amicably resolved the issue of banned colleges taking all the stakeholders into confidence.
Just few days back, the High Court had upheld Anoop Kumar’s appointment as Acting Vice Chancellor. Senate Member Gurudas Kamdi had approached the HC, questioning Kumar’s appointment as Acting VC. After the court’s decision, it was being understood that Kumar will continue as Acting VC. However, reason behind the sudden decision to appoint New Acting VC could not be ascertained.
