“The Shastra Puja by RSS has been creating situation of unrest across the nation. Even though the event is organized since the ages it is provoking people to possess and store arms in their houses,” said the Dalit leader and President of Bharip Bahujan Mahasangh.

Nagpur: The prominent Dalit leader and President of Bharip Bahujan Mahasangh Prakash Ambedkar has strongly objected to the traditional Shastra Puja performed by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) every year on Vijayadashmi (Dussehra). Even though Shastra Puja is an ancient event, Prakash Ambedkar has expressed his opposition to it as the RSS is performing the programme publicly.

Prakash Ambedkar was speaking to media at Ravi Bhavan in the city on Saturday.

“The Shastra Puja by RSS has been creating situation of unrest across the nation. Even though the event is organized since the ages it is provoking people to possess and store arms in their houses. When police and armed forces are dealing with the security and safety aspects in the country, there is no logic behind individual or private security apparatus. Hence the tradition of Shastra Puja should be stopped,” argued the Dalit leader.

Prakash Ambedkar further said that there is mention of Puja in the scriptures and the same is given as an example for performing Shastra Puja. Atmosphere of fear is prevailing among the Muslim and Dalit communities in the country. In this situation, such kind of activities prop up the dangers in bigger magnitude. The Green Brigade in Aurangabad is fine example in this respect. Even though scriptures mention Shastra Puja the great Saint Tukaram and Sage Charvak never performed it. The present situation is serious, stated the Dalit leader and added that in this month alone about 40 people have approached him and sought his help in procuring arms.

“The RSS Chief should make efforts in increasing social harmony and brotherhood instead of performing Shastra Puja,” asserted Prakash Ambedkar.
