Nagpur: The claim has been made by Mahagenco that pollution in the Koradi area has increased due to pollution in the Nagpur city caused by thermal power plants. After submitting the report of the survey to the High Court, Mahagenco has made this unusual claim while responding to the court.

In opposition to the proposal of expanding two projects of 660 megawatts in the Koradi power project, a petition has been filed in the Nagpur bench of the High Court by Vidarbha Connect.

The hearing on this petition has begun. Following the court’s directions, after submitting the report of the survey conducted on January 29 and 30 at B.P. Vidyalaya in Koradi, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) had indicated that the level of pollution in the area had increased. Responding to this, Mahagenco has submitted the figures of the Central Pollution Control Board’s daily pollution directives.

According to them, on the day of the survey conducted by MPCB, pollution in the Nagpur city was higher, and on that day, the wind was blowing from Nagpur towards the north-east direction, towards the school. Besides, on that day, due to humid weather conditions, PM-10 and PM 2.5 pollutants in the polluted air coming from Nagpur settled in the area of B.P. Vidyalaya, increasing pollution.

Specifically, Mahagenco has claimed to have submitted figures to the court showing that the pollution level in the vicinity of the thermal power plant was below the pollution limit. Another reason for pollution is the increase in traffic on Koradi roads. It has been stated that pollution is also increasing due to this traffic.
