Police warning: ‘Enjoy’ nylon manja and go to jail for 5 years plus Rs 1 lakh fine

Nagpur: Beware of kite lovers as well as vendors. If you are found using or selling the sharp nylon strings called ‘Manja’ during the coming ‘Sankranti’ festival, be prepared to spend five years in jail plus Rs 1 lakh fine as the use and sell of ‘deadly’ stuff has been banned by National Green Tribunal (NGT).

The city police have cautioned the ‘crazy’ kite flying buffs, greedy traders of strict action if they are found using or selling the banned nylon manja. Police have said that violating the ban is a cognizable offense under Section 15 of Environment Protection Act, 1986. The offence is punishable with five years imprisonment and/or fine of Rs. 1 lakh. This year 10 offences have been registered so far for sale/stock/use of nylon manja.

If citizens have has information of sale/stock/ use of nylon manja they they should inform the nearest police station or to the police control room on 100 or on WhatsApp number 8055472422.

Please save your neighbors/ friends and other citizens from serious injuries by not using and saying no to nylon manja. At the same time, save the helpless birds and animals from this dangerous nylon stuff.
