Piyush Goyal appreciated performance of WCL

Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy, Mines, Piyush Goyal, reviewed annual performance of Nagpur based Miniratna PSU Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) during his visit to Nagpur, today. While reviewing the performance of WCL, Goyal congratulated Team WCL and praised the zeal of Team for setting new milestone in Production & Social Responsibility during FY 2016-17.

“WCL has registered record 56% growth in coal production during March, 2017 month on month basis and achieved 45.63 Million tonnes coal production during FY 2016-17. During last quarter of FY 2016-17 WCL achieved record 30.1% growth in coal production, 20.1% growth in OB removal, 15.2% growth in despatch compared to the corresponding period of FY 2015-16. The increased coal production enabled greater availability of coal to consumers.


While achieving various milestones, over two and half years period during 2014-2017, WCL has achieved, highest ever Coal Production of 3.36 lakhs Tonnes in a day and highest ever dispatch of 1.67 Lakh tonnes with thirty one rakes loading in a day during FY 2016-17. WCL approved 30 projects, highest ever in a year, adding capacity of 53.29 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) and opened highest ever in a year 18 Projects having 37.89 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) Capacity”, he added.

In order to bring further transparency three existing Apps of WCL were also dedicated to the consumers at the hands of Minister, namely “Vendor bill status”, “Sampark” and “Mine Water Utilization”, on the day. Minister also paid floral tribute to the martyred workers at newly built “Shaheed Samarak” and rich floral tributes to the architect of Indian Constitution, Bharat Ratna Dr. B. R. Ambedkar on his birth anniversary. He was welcomed with Guard Of Honor by WCL security guards.
