
Nagpur: In a tragic road accident that has left a family devastated, a 45-year-old man lost his life after being run over by a speeding truck in Koradi late on Sunday night.
The deceased has been identified as Firoz alias Pirya Shankar Pitkar, a resident of Jawahar Nagar in Mahadula under Koradi area. According to police, the incident occurred around 11:40 pm on April 26, when Pitkar was walking along the service road near Mahadula Chowk, close to Sai Medical, within the jurisdiction of Koradi Police Station.
Police said that a truck bearing registration number RJ-11 GC 9345, allegedly driven in a rash and negligent manner by Dharmendra Gangaram Danav (26), a resident of Gwalior district in Madhya Pradesh, struck Pitkar with great force. The impact left him critically injured.
Passersby rushed the injured man to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (Mayo Hospital), where doctors, after examination, declared him dead.
Based on a complaint lodged by the deceased’s son, Arjun Firoz Pitkar (26), police have registered a case against the accused driver under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita and the Motor Vehicles Act, including charges of causing death by negligence and reckless driving.
The accused driver has been arrested, and further investigation is underway. The incident has once again highlighted the growing menace of reckless driving on city roads, claiming innocent lives.
