Paschim Nagpur Shobhayatra commences with religious fervour

Nagpur: A Shobhayatra marking the Janmotsav of Lord Ram was taken out from Ram Mandir in west Nagpur. In its 44th year, the Paschim Nagpur Shobhayatra commenced after the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis offered puja of Lord Ram, Sita, Laxman and Hanuman placed on a colourfully decorated Rath. Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit also performed puja of the deities.

Other dignitaries present on the occasion include Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, MPs Ajay Sancheti, Krupal Tumane, Mayor Nanda Jichkar, MLA Sudhakar Deshmukh, MLC Parinay Fukey, Samiti Chairman Jayant Apte, Secretary Rajiv Kalele, and others.

The Palki, which bears a pair of wooden footwear also called Padukas, are placed in the palanquin and carried by six people around the 8 km route that takes six hours to complete. The procession moved from Ram Nagar Square to Laxmi Bhuvan Square, Shankar Nagar, Bajaj Nagar, Shradhhanandpeth, Abhyankar Nagar and back. The entire path was illuminated with coloured lights and loudspeakers will be put up from Ram Nagar to Shankar Nagar square from morning.

A variety of floats and tableaus are part of the Shobhayatra depicting mythological and Ramayan events.
