Nagpur: Shiv Sena candidate from South-West Nagpur in Assembly elections Panju Totwani was attacked by a youth when Totwani had intervened to resolve a quarrel between two groups. Totwani sustained minor injuries while another man sustained grievous injuries in the attack.
Sources have it that a group clash had occurred in Khamla at around 8 pm on Friday. Police said, reason behind this clash has been told to be a quarrel over bursting of crackers. Members of both the groups approached Totwani for resolving the issue. However, one of the persons took out a sharp-edged weapon and attacked Totwani. He received minor injury on his hand during the attack. However, the attack on Totwani erupted yet another clash between the groups. As per details, Ankush Gupta from the group has sustained serious injuries in the attack.
Later, the groups reached Pratap Nagar Police Station and a mob of around 100-200 people gathered in the police station. In order to avoid any untoward situation, police staff was deployed in the premises. Police said, a complaint was lodged against Vinod Jethani, Vinod Jethani, manoj Jethani and his 20-25 supporters under Sections 143, 147, 149, 323, 324 of the IPC. A minor lathicharge was used by the cops to control the mob.

Police said, supporters from Totwani gheraoed the police station and demanded immediate action from the cops. However, his supporters turned violent after which cops had to take action against them. On the basis of the complaint lodged by Vinod Jethani, Cops have registered a counter case against Punju Totwani, Ankush Gupta, Harish Totwani, Rahul Totwani, Akash Totwani, Sairam, Tanmay, Shankar Kukreja in this regard under Sections 143, 147, 149, 323, 504 and 506 of the IPC against them.
Interestingly, cops have recovered some packets assumed to be Ganja from Vinod Jethani’s Hyundai car. Sources said that police are trying to avoid the case as Vinod Jethani is an active member of BJP.
Also, a BJP corporator who has allegedly been detained in a case on Friday was present during the group clash around 11 pm in support of Vinod Jethani. However, cops are keeping mum on this issue.
