Nagpur: A traffic cop had a lucky escape as an overloaded mini truck tried to hit him when asked to stop at Cotton Market on Saturday. An accomplice of the mini truck driver created a scene and threatened the cop.

The complainant policeman, Devrao Vithoba Shendre, attached to Traffic Branch, Cotton Market, along with other staff was on patrol duty between 12.45 pm and 2 pm on Saturday. The cops spotted an overloaded Tata 407 mini truck (MH-31/3783). Devrao signalled the driver of the vehicle to stop. But instead of stopping his vehicle, the driver Sheikh Shakoor Dilawar Sheikh (46), resident of Wathoda, Pawanshakti Nagar, tried to knock the traffic cop and flee the spot. However, due to heavy rush on the road, the driver stopped his overloaded vehicle near Kalpana Wine Shop on Cotton Market Road. Here, an accomplice of the driver, Shravan Mourya started creating a scene by shouting loudly and gathered a mob of people. Shravan threatened Devrao of consequences if action is taken against them and obstructed the cops from performing their duty.

Based on Devrao’s complaint, Ganeshpeth API Vijay Barde booked the two accused Sheikh Shakoor Dilawar Sheikh and Shravan Mourya under Sections 353, 323, 294, 506, 34 of the IPC. It could not be verified whether the two accused were arrested and their vehicle seized.
