Nagpur: The Orange City on Friday (April 15) went saffron as devotees in thousands thronged Shri Poddareshwar Ram Mandir and three other temples of Lord Ram on the occasion of Ram Navami. Streets across the city were overflowing as people lined up to witness attractive Shobhayatras.
Chief Miniser Devendra Fadanvis, accompanied by Energy Minister and District Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Mayor Pravin Datke, other dignitaries joined the celebrations. Fadnavis and Datke performed puja of Lord Ram’s idol and pulled the main chariot wherein idols Lord Ram, Sita and Laxman were placed. This is the golden jubilee of the Ram Navami Shobha Yatra taken out on the occasion from Poddareshwar Ram Mandir.
Colourful floats depicting scenes from mythology took part in the procession which traverse through the main streets of the city before returning to the temple.
Similarly, 300 years old historical shobhayatra of Bhonsala dynasty was also taken out from senior Bhonsala palace. 43rd Shobhayatra will be held in West Nagpur while 14th Shobhayatra will be held from Bellyshop ancient Shiv Mandir.
Other dignitaries who were present at Shri Poddareshwar Ram Mandir include former Minister Anees Ahmed, MP Ajay Sancheti, Former MPs Banwarilal Purohit, Vilas Muttemwar, Datta Maghe, MP Avinash Pandey, Commissioner of Police S P Yadav, Divisional Commissioner Anoop Kumar, District Collector Sachin Kurve, NMC Commissioner Shravan Hardikar, MP Vijay Darda, legislators, Sudhakar Deshmukh, Krishna Khopde, Vikas Kumbhare, Sudhakar Kohale, Dr Milind Mane, Mitesh Bhangadiya, Anil Sole, Girish Vyas, Satish Chaturvedi, Ramesh Bang, Dr Nitin Raut Rajendra Mulak, Dinanath Padole, Deputy Mayor Munna Pokulwar, Jaiprakash Gupta, corporators Deepak Patel, Harshala Sable, Suresh Sharma, Dayashankar Tiwari, Sudhir (Bandu) Raut, Ramesh Singare, Munnalal Gaur, and others.
The shobhayatra started from Shri Poddareshwar Ram Mandir and passed through Kakde Chowk, Hansapuri, Naalsahab Chowk, Ganjakhet Chowk, Bhandara Road, Shahid Chowk, Chitar Oli Square, Pandit Bachchraj Chowk, Kelibagh Road, Mahal Square, Gandhi Gate Mahal, Tilak Putala, Subhash Road, Agyaram Devi Square, Geeta Mandir, Khandoba Mandir, Cotton Market Square, Malaviya Road, Narayansingh Uikey Square, Janaki Talkies, Dr Munje Chowk, Jhanshi Rani Square, Sitabuldi Main Road, Manas Chowk, Netaji Subhash Statue, Station Road, Santra Market and returned to Shri Poddareshwar Ram Mandir.
Tight security arrangements have been made by city police for the 50th Shriram Janmotsav Shobhayatra. The entry of vehicles from 11 am to 12.30 pm and from 3 pm to 4.30 pm has been prohibited near by areas of Shri Poddareshwar Ram Mandir.
Paschim Nagpur Nagrik Sangh (PNNS), Shriram Mandir, Ram Nagar has organised 43rd Shobhayatra of Prabhu Ramchandra in West Nagpur on Friday. Palanquin pujan was performed at the hands of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
