Nagpur:In the heat of controversy over BJP Mayor Nanda Jichkar’s official visit to US along with her son, city Congress staged an agitation demanding her resignation. The party leaders took to demonstration in front of Mayor’s office in Civil Lines on Wednesday afternoon.
Led by Opposition leader Tanaji Vanve, city Congress unit comprising local corporators, members of woman Congress along with Youth Congress pressed for immediate resignation of Jichkar.
The Opposition alleged that, Mayor used false papers to present her son as her personal secretary and also misused government’s money to fund this trip. Congress leaders also blamed her casual approach towards administration, which according to them is the main reason behind the snail’s pace of the development works across the city.
It may be mentioned that Nagpur Mayor Nanda Jichkar has taken her younger son Priyash, on an official tour of the US in San Francisco, to attend the meeting of the Global Climate Action Summit, for which she had introduced her son as her private secretary in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).
