Nagpur: Nagpur has many industries which included MIDC Hingna and Buti Bori. One of the passionate activists who fights for the right of workers and labourers, Jammu Anand claimed that immediately on receipt of the information of 25 workers of Haldiram Factory in Gumthala, he registered a complaint with Labour Commissioner. According to him, there is only one Labour Inspector. The single Labour-Inspector was busy with some issue in Mahindra and Mahindra Factory. Jammu Anand claimed that the Labour Inspector would have already visited the site.
While speaking to Nagpur Today, Jammu Anand claimed that the Guardian Minister of Nagpur District Chandrashekhar Bawankule is well aware of the issue. However, it is not clear as to what action he has initiated to penalize the principal employer, the authorities of Haldiram, nor is it clear about what preventive measures he has initiated to prevent such incidents in future in that area.
When asked if this is not criminal negligence of the contractor and the principal employer for ignoring the welfare of the workers, Jammu Anand said that these issues need a labourer, worker or the contractor to register a police complaint. Any labourer, worker or the labour contractor registering a police complaint can never again get any contract in any industry in Nagpur. So the rights of the migrant workers can as well be forgotten.
