Power breakdowns, excessive tripping’s at Orange City Water’s (OCW) Kanhan Water Treatment Plant (WTP) by state power Distribution Company MSEDCL, is once again depriving citizens of North, East and parts of South Nagpur of precious potable water supply.

In yet another power tripping series, On July 21 to 23, due to almost 12 times frequent and extended power failure from MSEDCL side there were interruptions in pumping from Kanhan WTP to East and North Nagpur. (Tripping details attached) This resulted in very less water levels in the ESR’s and very little water pressure in direct tapping supply areas.

As per statistics available with Orange City Water (OCW) due to 12 times power breakdowns (tripping) at Kanhan WTP in last 3 days there has been approx. 8.35 hours of pumping loss amounting to roughly around 85 MLD of less pumping to the city, especially East, North and parts of South Nagpur.

It is also learnt that since July 23, morning due to heavy storm and rain numerous trees have fallen on the HT lines coming from the two upper sub- station of kanhan.

It may be mentioned here, power trippings at Kanhan WTP has become a common phenomenon these days. Recently on June 21, Kanhan Water Treatment Plant (WTP) faced 2 major power break downs, first of 2.30 hrs long (8.15 am to 10.45 am) and another of One-hour long (12.35 pm to 1.35 pm). While in the month of May (from May 1 to 7), due to almost 17 times (6 hours) frequent and extended power failure from MSEDCL side there were interruptions in pumping from Kanhan WTP to East and North Nagpur. This resulted in very less water levels in the ESR’s and very little water pressure in direct tapping supply areas.

Due to such excessive power tripping’s citizens are facing problems and are compelled to live with either restricted or no water supply. The citizen had to live with limited or no water supply.

Orange City Water (OCW) Chief Executive Officer, Sanjoy Roy has stated that despite such facts, the inconvenience caused due to such unavoidable circumstance to citizens of North, East and parts of South Nagpur is highly regretted. “Citizens can get any other information or complaints regarding water supply from OCW Toll Free Number: 1800-266-9899”,  Sanjoy Roy informed.
