Om Prakash, Director (Technical/Operations) has been given additional charge of Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) by Coal Ministry. The move follows death of Chairman-cum-Managing Director Dinesh Chandra Garg on June 17 in Hyderabad. Garg had gone to Hyderabad to attend a meeting of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). During the meeting, he suffered heart attack and later died during the course of treatment.

Om Prakash is a distinguished and experienced mining engineer. He has completed his BTech in Mining Engineering in Mining Engineer in 1981 with Gold Medal and post-graduation (MTech) in 1990 from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. He took charge as WCL’s Director (Planning and Projects) on June 1, 2008. At present, Om Prakash is holding the post of Director (Personnel/Opeartions).

He has also served in Central Coalfields Limited and South Eastern Coalfields Limited in various capacities during his distinguished career spanning 31 years. Om Prakash has expertise in Planning, Operations and Management of both underground and opencast mines. He participated 23rd World Mining Congress held in Montreal, Canada in August 2013. To develop the mining engineering in underground and opencast mines, he has visited Australia and Germany also.
