Old man knocked dead by travel bus in Wadi

Nagpur: In a hit-and-run incident, a speeding private travel bus knocked a 78-year old man dead in Wadi police area on Monday night. The bus driver fled the spot fearing police action and angry reaction from the public.

Cops have launched a search for the driver based on the registration number of the truck.

The deceased, Gulabrao Sonekar, resident of Plot No. 25, Vikas Nagar, Wadi, was crossing the road in front of Sugandha Mobile Shopee, Amravati Road, around 7 pm on Monday.

During the same time, a rashly driven private travel bus (MH-14/CW 3874) hit the aged man with force. The grievously injured Gulabrao was taken to Mayo Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

The bus driver fled the spot fearing police action and angry reaction from the public.

Wadi ASI Ganesh Fulakwar, based on a complaint lodged by Praful Gulabrao Sonekar (30), booked the bus driver under Sections 279, 304(A) of the IPC.

Cops have launched a search for the driver based on the registration number of the truck.
