Nagpur News : The Orange City Water (OCW) which is working on war footing to replace rusted and age-old pipelines and House Service Connections as part of NMC’s ambitious uninterrupted (24X7) water supply project is also working on war footing on restoration of trenches, pits created for laying pipelines and especially giving emphasis on ‘Safety First’ methodology. It must be mentioned here OCW which believes in ‘Safety of Nagpurians, especially vehicular and pedestrian traffic on top of its priorities list’ has replaced almost 415 km pipeline especially in North, East and Central and West Nagpur out of which almost 250 km pipeline has been laid by using innovative Horizontal Direction Drilling Machine (HDD), called as an advanced, “Trenchless Technology”.

OCW is using “Trenchless Technology” in many command areas. In this, the whole road is not required to be dug but only two points are excavated after every 100 meter and pipe is laid through them. This technology needs minimum restoration. OCW is a ‘numero uno’ public utility company in city which has started utilizing such technology, as it has minimized traffic disruptions and chances of disturbing existing utilities?

But it is also fact that OCW is creating trenches in lanes (Not on main roads but on internal roads ) and pits for rehabilitation work (24X7 project) and operation and maintenance work of existing water supply system, however during such work unlike other public utility agencies OCW is taking all necessary safety precautions like installation of OCW barricades, safety caution tapes, display boards, sign boards clearly mentioning that work is carried out jointly by NMC and Orange City Water (OCW) for 24X7 project or for operation and maintenance work.

Further a Special team comprising of members from safety, security, PR and project works under the guidance of OCW Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sanjoy Roy has been keeping close watch on the safety activities being implemented on the project sites. Regular visits on sites to implement adequate safety measure are one of the features of team.

Further, during monsoon season smooth vehicular movements as well to reduce the inconvenience to people, OCW took special efforts and have temporarily started filling trenches and small pits with stone dust and other material. After stone dust and ‘murrom’ used for restoration settles down the pits and trenches will be restored completely with quality ‘8 inch’ quality concreting materials.

OCW always believes in quality work and there will be no compromise in the quality of restoration work.Till date OCW has completed restoration of almost 255 km in rehabilitation project while rest has been covered under Trenchless Technology’ method. Along with actual rehabilitation work of the uninterrupted (24×7) water supply project, NMC-OCW is also replacing very old network, rusted pipelines under ‘Emergency Works.’ Under emergency works OCW replaced almost 25 km pipeline and here also restoration work is in final stages.

Uninterrupted water supply project begins in Chinchbhuvan & Kalamana command area:

The old, congested and densely populated localities in South- West Nagpur like Chnichbhuvan and Kalamana and Minimata Nagar from East Nagpur will get fully pressurised and clean drinking water soon.

The Orange City Water (OCW) which is implementing Nagpur Municipal Corporations ambitious project of providing uninterrupted water supply project (popularly known as 24X7) has commenced its rehabilitation project (changing of pipelines) in Chinchbhuvan and Kalamana-Minimata Nagar command area recently.

In Chinchbhuvan and Kamalna-Minimata command area NMC-OCW is not only replacing age old network and will also be laying new pipelines using HDPE (High Density Poly Ethylene) pipes and will provide house service connections (HSC’s) at every consumers door-step using MDPE (Medium Density Poly Ethylene) pipes.

It may be mentioned here, OCW is also creating trenches in lanes (Not on main roads ) and pits for rehabilitation work (24X7 project) and operation and maintenance work of existing water supply system, however during such work unlike other public utility agencies OCW is taking all necessary safety precautions like installation of OCW barricades, safety tapes, display boards clearly mentioning that work is carried out jointly by NMC and Orange City Water (OCW) for 24X7 project or for operation and maintenance work.
