Nagpur: In view of a host of life-threatening diseases caused by consumption of contaminated water and lack of interest on the part of citizens in testing quality of water, the problem increases manifold. But now an opportunity has come all the way to the citizens carry out quality check of water. Earlier, the Health Department was the only authority on water quality check up. But now the Ground Water Survey will also carry out this work.
Now onwards, the quality of water can be checked at 24 laboratories of Ground Water Survey in six districts of Nagpur Division. Earlier, the department used to provide information regarding ground water level only. But according to Deputy Director of Ground Water Survey I I Shaha, the responsibility to carry of water quality check has been bestowed on the department. The report of water samples would be made available within a week. The tests were earlier done at divisional level but now will be done at district level, Shaha said and added the tests on quality of water from time to time is must.
