Nagpur: In a significant breakthrough, Ambazari Police have arrested a habitual offender involved in multiple house break-ins across Nagpur, solving at least four theft cases with his arrest.
The accused has been identified as Sagar Bhanja, a known burglar who had been on the police radar following a recent theft in the Gandhinagar area.
According to police, the case came to light when a family residing in a flat in Gandhinagar had locked their house and travelled to Pune to visit relatives. During their absence, a neighbour alerted them that the lock of their house had been broken. Acting on this, the complainant Pankaj Kapse visited the residence and discovered that valuables had been stolen, following which a complaint was lodged.
During routine patrolling near LIT Chowk, police spotted a youth moving suspiciously on a moped. He was detained and identified as Sagar Bhanja. During sustained interrogation, he confessed to committing the Gandhinagar burglary.
Further questioning revealed his involvement in multiple thefts across Ambazari, Pachpaoli, and Hudkeshwar police station limits. Police said the accused is addicted to narcotics, and his drug dependency drove him to repeatedly commit burglaries to fund his addiction.
Officials confirmed that stolen property has been recovered from his possession, leading to the detection of four cases so far. Police are now probing whether the accused is linked to additional theft incidents in the city.
The arrest highlights ongoing efforts by Nagpur Police to crack down on repeat offenders and curb the rising incidents of property crimes.
