Nagpur: Expressing their disapprobation against Government proposed amendment in the Notaries Act restricting the number of terms a person can practice; Notaries across India has called for a strike on December 14. No work related to Notary will be conducted throughout this day across the country, informed Adv. Ranjit Sardey President, (District Nagpur) Notary Association Maharashtra.

Notably, the Government has proposed to restrict the overall term of notaries for a period up to 15 years i.e. initial term of five years and two renewal terms of five years each by curtailing renewal of unlimited terms. The move has drawn tremendous flak from the Notaries across the country.

Contending that the proposed amendment will only snatch away livelihood from Notaries, Adv Ranjit Sardey expressed concern over the move.

“By curtailing the Notary’s term to mere 15 years, the Government has put a grievous threat to the livelihood of the Rotaries across the country. After completing the tenure of 15 years, what will that Notary do? From where will he/she earn bread and butter for their family? Thus we oppose these proposed amendments and have called for an India level strike against the Government’s move on December 14,” Adv Sardey, the President (District Nagpur), Notary Association Maharashtra said.
