NMC’s Tax Committee gives a major push to recovery of Property Tax

Property Tax notices have been sent to Futala Lake Food kiosks and the information regarding reports on the tenants of Balkrishna Wasnik and Haldiram’s Water Park would be given at the next meeting, the Chairman of NMC’s Tax Consultative Committee Deshmukh said.

Deshmukh news photo 30 Sept 2013Nagpur News: The meeting of the Tax Consultative Committee of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), which was held today, provided a major push in assessment and recovery of Property Tax including issuance of Property Tax notices to Futala Lake food kiosks and reports on Balkrishna Wasnik’s tenants and Haldiram’s Water Park.

The Tax Consultative Committee Chairman Girish Deshmukh, addressing a press conference after the meeting, said, “Today’s meeting stressed upon tax recovery in a big way and the payment of arrears to NMC employees in accordance with the Sixth Pay Commission. Till now, the Property Tax Department has issued 210647 Demand Notices which would fill the NMC coffers by Rs 125 crore. Out of Rs 125 crore, Rs 42.60 crore have already been recovered. Similarly, 9737 new properties have been assessed. The NMC will hold special camps on Saturdays and Sundays after October 10 for recovery of Property Tax. All the NMC Zones have been directed to levy the tax on commercial properties which were till now paying the residential Property Tax. Moreover, now onwards, whenever the ADTP (Town Planning) would sanction any plan, a copy of the plan will be furnished to the Zonal Office which will facilitate the assessment of Property Tax as soon as the construction is completed,” Deshmukh stated and added “Similarly, the Zonal Office which itself sanctions plot plan within 5000 square feet, will provide the copy of the same to Zonal Tax Assessor.”

Deshmukh further said, “The revised assessment of commercial properties should be done in 3-5 years. The Property Tax on Central and State Government properties has been assessed at Rs 20 crore out of which State Government will pay Rs 14 crore and Rs 6 crore from Central Government. Similarly, Property Tax notices have been sent to Futala Lake Food kiosks and the information regarding reports on the tenants of Balkrishna Wasnik and Haldiram’s Water Park would be given at the next meeting and press conference,” Deshmukh said.

Talking about the LBT recovery, the Tax Consultative Committee Chairman Deshmukh said, “A total of Rs 187.72 crore including Traffic Charge have been received on the LBT front. In the last fiscal year, the collection was Rs 224 crore for the month of September.”

On the issue of payment of Sixth Pay Commission arrears, Deshmukh said, the outstanding arrears of 59 months have been pending including Rs 155 crore of serving employees and Rs 25 crore of pensioners. The NMC Chief Finance and Accounts Officer has been directed to submit a report over financial condition within 15 days. Then only the plans would be made to pay the arrears, Deshmukh asserted.
