NMC’s GBM bays for KRML’s blood for its scandalous affairs

Nagpur: The proverbial sword of Damocles hanged over head of Kanak Resource Management Limited (KRML), the garbage collection and transportation agency contracted by Nagpur Municipal Corporation, for its haphazard style of working.

The shabby affairs of the dubious company on Monday sparked turmoil in NMC’s General Body Meeting (GBM) with members baying for its blood. Now, the only breather the company received was tabling of ‘Action Taken Report (ATR)’ being awaited anxiously. Once the ATR is tabled, the mood of the General Body Meeting on Monday clearly hinted stern action against the truant KRML along with other guilty authorities.  The Mayor Pravin Datke dropped hints that the punitive action will be initiated after the ATR is submitted.

It is pertinent to recall that the Opposition members who had been flexing their muscles against the working style of Kanak Resource Management Limited from the beginning, brought to the fore the company’s umpteen irregularities before the Ruling Party and the General Body Meeting, time and again. Subsequently, a high-powered Committee was set up to investigate affairs of KRML. The report of the Committee too has revealed irregularities being indulged by the company in large scale.

“Even though the General Body Meeting could not hold discussion on the Committee report the Mayor has assured the House of a stern action once the ‘Action Taken Report’ is submitted,” stated the Opposition members but with anger writ large on their faces. The meeting also cornered the garbage weighing company Matrix for serious lapses and negligence. According to Mayor, the probe report would be submitted to the Municipal Commissioner and those found guilty would be severely punished notwithstanding the status.

The Municipal Commissioner, speaking on the issue, said that after the investigations the NMC Administration has initiated the recovery process. The guilty will be punished. The cleanliness is a vital aspect for the ‘Smart City’ project. There will absolutely be no compromise on this issue, declared the Commissioner.

‘Review Committee’ set up to ensure implementation of directives:
The Opposition members created a lot of hue and cry as they charged that despite exposing many a scam no action was initiated against the guilty. The Mayor limited himself to issuing directives in this respect but no action was taken till to date, they said. Raising a question mark over the role of Ruling Party, the Opposition continued its uproar over the issue forcing the Mayor to issue directions for setting up of a ‘Review Committee’ to ensure implementation of his directives.

In fact, several significant works get stalled for years together due to non-implementation of directives issued in the House. The same proposal is pending on the agenda of the meeting and the precious time is wasted on discussions on the same proposal. A decision must be arrived after the meaningful discussions but it is not happening. Moreover, several meetings are adjourned without any meaningful discussions. The Opposition has till date bared ‘garbage scam,’ Star bus scam, wood scam at crematoriums, ‘Gharkul’ scam and many more. But despite directives issued by Mayor for initiating action, no action has so far been taken against the guilty, lamented the Opposition members.

Will act immediately, assures Mpl Commissioner:
Watching the angry mood of the Opposition members, the Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar assured the House that henceforth the directives will be followed and the guilty will be punished. If the concerned authorities are found negligent in this respect, they will also face action, assured Hardikar.
