Instead of vacating the land after expiry of lease period given by NMC the Indian Gymkhana Club has illegally encroached upon the nearby playground in Dhantoli

Nagpur News: The Dhantoli Zone authorities of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) became the victims of the heat, not of sizzling summer, but the anger of Leader of Opposition in NMC Vikas Thakre, who was outraged on the fact that despite lodging several complaints over encroachments on the playground by Indian Gymkhana Club, no tangible action was initiated by the Dhantoli Zone authorities.

Vikas Thakre was leading a delegation of Takia area slum-dwellers which comes under Dhantoli Zone of NMC. The Takia residents had previously handed over several complaints or memorandums on the issue of encroachments by the Indian Gymkhana Club on the nearby playground. It may be mentioned the Indian Gymkhana Club is based in Dhontoli near the Takia area.  The Indian Gymkhana Club illegally erected tins or tin sheds on the nearby playground despite objections by the Takia residents.

However, the Takia residents, who found themselves helpless against the wishes of the adamant Dhantoli Zone authorities, finally approached the Leader of Opposition in NMC Vikas Thakre, who, too, understood the gravity of the situation, gate-crashed at Dhantoli Zone and gave a dressing down to the concerned authorities by way of hot words and asked them to initiate strong action against the Indian Gymkhana Club.

Thakre informed that the NMC had leased a specific part of the land in Takia area and at nearby playground long back. And most significantly, the lease period of the Indian Gymkhana Club has expired and even if the Club had any grievances on the lease issue, the NMC Administration, has not by any way like any court order, been stopped in taking action against the Indian Gymkhana Club. But the concerned NMC authorities, by one reason or the other, raising their “dirty” hands thus leaving the Indian Gymkhana Club scot free over its illegal encroachment action. He further said, had a common man encroached a small piece of land, the NMC would have gone a mile ahead and demolished the encroachment. Similarly, the Indian Gymkhana Club building has become illegal after the expiry of the lease period, added an angry Thakre.

But, instead  of vacating the land the Indian Gymkhana Club is indulging in more and more illegal activities like encroaching the area of nearby playground. Thakre further informed that the Dhantoli Zone had served a notice to Indian Gymkhana Club three months ago and given an ultimatum of seven days to the Club to vacate the land as the lease period has expired. However, the NMC had right to take action against the Indian Gymkhana Club as the Club had failed to vacate the land. But the NMC authorities maintained a radio silence on the issue by no action against the Indian Gymkhana Club.

Now, the Dhantoli Zone authorities have assured Thakre of action against the Indian Gymkhana Club within seven days. In turn, Thakre has warned the officials that he would demand a strong action against them and launch an intense protest if the concerned authorities failed to take action against the Indian Gymkhana Club.
