NAGPUR: Keeping in view the increasing water crisis in the city, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to make water harvesting mandatory at all new buildings of 1500 square meter or more area. The decision was made at the NMC’s water committee meeting, presided over by its chairman Pintu Jhalke at the NMC headquarters on Saturday.

The committee decided that maps of all new and upcoming construction of 1500 square meter or more area would be sanctioned only if the proposals of new buildings have details about installation of rainwater harvesting systems. It will also be mandatory for the builders to submit to NMC a certificate from the Groundwater Survey Department on successful installation of rainwater harvesting units. A proposal in this regard is expected to be presented in the next general body meeting of the NMC.

While discussing construction of Water ATMs in the city, the meeting decided that a Water ATM would be started on trial basis in Laxmi Nagar zone under State Assembly’s South-West Nagpur constituency.
