NMC to launch drive against water theft from main pipeline by pumps

Nagpur: In a move to curb water theft by house owners and commercial establishments with help of pumps during summer, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is launching a drive against the ill practice and take stern action against those using water (Tullu) pumps. The NMC will launch a ‘water pumps seizure drive’ across the city in a bid to stop people from illegally drawing more water and creating low pressure or artificial water shortage for other residents, said Chairman of Water Works Committee Vijay Zalke in meeting of the committee at Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh hall.

Zalke further said that complaints about contaminated water supply are pouring in from city areas. A special team will be formed to solve the problems. He also asked concerned corporators to immediately visit the areas from where complaints of contaminated waters supply area. The committee also decided to increase frequency of water tankers. The committee also discussed to repair bore wells situated in different localities. Deputy Chairperson of the committee Shraddha Pathak, members Pradip Pohane, Harish Gwalbanshi, Jayashri Rarokar, Pranita Shahane, EE Sanjay Gaikwad, DE Dipak Chitnis, M P Singh of OCW were present in the meeting.
