NMC levies 1% Tree Tax on all Property Tax payees

NMC’s Standing Committee presided by Chairman Sandeep Jadhav
Nagpur: A meeting of NMC’s Standing Committee presided by Chairman Sandeep Jadhav was held on Saturday. Talking the media persons after the meeting, Jadhav said that 1 percent Tree Sub Tax has been made mandatory for all Property Tax payees. The amount accrued from this tax would be spent on conservation of environment in accordance with the recommendations of Tree Authority Department. “The civic body would earn revenue of over Rs 2.5 crore annually on account of this tax,” Jadhav said.

Similarly, Jadhav further said, rate contract would be fixed through e-tenders for supply of necessary material to NMC’s workshops. The meeting also approved a proposal regarding no entry fees for children below three years visiting Swami Vivekanand Memorial at Ambazari Overflow Point. However, Rs 10 each will be charged from others. Ramkrishna Math has shown its interest in maintenance of the Memorial. A final decision in this regard will be taken shortly, Jadhav said.

The Standing Committee also approved 5 percent annual increase water cess on water tax payees. The increase has already in force from April 1. However, the proposal was forwarded to the Standing Committee only on April 27. The Chairman ‘regretted’ this delay. The Committee also gave its approval to auction the goods seized from those entities who failed to pay octroi duty during recovery process. In another decision, the lawyers who worked for NMC and were being paid remuneration monthly will now be paid a fixed amount per case.

The meeting passed a revised budget regarding installation of solar panels at Suresh Bhat Memorial Hall for making the electricity arrangement affordable as well as modern.

The Chairman Sandeep Jadhav said that the NMC Budget for the year 2017-18 will be presented after tabling the Transport Budget in the month of May.
