Nagpur: Finally, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has woken up from its slumber and issued notices to 45 illegal lawns, hotels, garages, showrooms etc situated at Kachipura, directing them to demolish all permanent and temporary structures by themselves within 30 days. Notices have been issued for not having any building plan sanction.

NMC Dharampeth zone has issued notices to all 45 commercial establishments and eight land owners belonging to Kachi community under Section 53 (1) of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act. As per notices, all will have to ensure demolition of structures within 30 days. NMC will raze the structures in case land owners or tenants fail to demolish the structures after 30 days.

However, all the notice holders have reportedly challenged the notices with the state’s urban development department. Action can be taken only after decision of the urban development department on the appeal.

All these commercial establishments also including a car showroom, gas agency etc started to come up from 1972. A few came up in 1980s and all by 2005. NMC was sitting pretty and swung into action only after general body question (GBQ) submitted by leader of opposition group Vikas Thakre.
