Delay in payment amounts to exploitation of employees
Nagpur: The LBT came to NMC as a major source of income and gone away also, yet the condition of delay for months in making salary payments to NMC employees is not done away with. Even the ruling party as well as opposition party in the NMC have turned their deaf ears over this vital issue. Frustrated as they have become, the employees are showing severe resentment against all NMC office-bearers and senior officials. With resentment they met other day the senior officials in this regard, but in vain.
The NMC employees have been facing crisis in payment of their monthly salary over several months, even after 45 or 50 days have passed since their salary date due. Having not received their salary even after two months, a delegation of the employees from headquarters and all NMC zones met additional NMC commissioner Nayana Gunde, both Dy commissioners Jayant Dandegaonkar and Rizwan Siddiqi and apprised them of their problems.
Their problems included delay for months in making payment of salary to employees, non-payment of arrears and medical bill reimbursement over 6 months, non-payment of arrears over 2 years to retired employees, no trace of arrears due of 6th Pay Commission Recommendations, non-payment of DA arrears (to 8000 permanent and 4000 temporary employees of NMC) since the time when late Vilasrao Deshmukkh was chief minister. All this seems to be height of delay in making the employees receive their rightful financial gains in time.
The delegation had last month urged the Mayor, Pravin Datke to impose other type of entry tax as the octroi was abolished so that financial condition of NMC could improve. Even slight hike in property tax can be a means of improving the financial condition of NMC, but it will burden the citizens.
