Nagpur News: The thousands employees of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) have been found themselves in a vicious circle on the salary front. The more the crunch of funds for NMC the more the grip of the circle. The day the Local Body Tax (LBT) was enforced by the NMC (April 1, 2013), the financial problems started to crop up as their salaries bore the maximum LBT brunt. The non-payment of salaries on the scheduled date is creating a chain of difficulties for them in day to day living. Hundreds of NMC employees solely depend on salaries. Such employees have suddenly found themselves totally in different situations they might not have faced earlier.
The enforcement of LBT has shown its side-effects as since the past three months, the payment of salaries to thousands of NMC employees has been made after the second week and of every month. The employees received their salaries in June and July after 18th thus throwing their lives haywire. And the uncertainty looms over the payment of salaries in August. There is a decade long tradition of paying salaries first to the employees of General Administration Department. The salaries are distributed through banks. But till today, the NMC cheque has not been deposited in the bank. The employees would receive the payment of their salaries after three days once the NMC cheque is cleared by the bank. The delay is causing untold sufferings for the employees as even a petty payment to newspaper vendor bill is getting hold up. However, that is not a problem worth mentioning. The main problem is of payment of power bills. The power company men, without giving a thought, disconnect the power supply thus putting the already troubled employees into more and more kinds of difficulties.
