NMC earns Rs 2.71 cr from advertisements

Nagpur: The cash-starved Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has “added peanuts” in its coffers in the form of Rs 2.71 crore earned from advertisements in the city. The earning for the NMC was till August 2017.

This information was revealed in an RTI reply provided by NMC under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005 to activist Abhay Kolakar. The information stated that the NMC has generating funds from giving permission to erect hoardings on its land. The civic body also generates funds from shop board licences under the Outdoor Advertising Policy, 2001.

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation got an application from Oppo Company for advertisements in different parts of the city. However, the civic body also received Rs 6.97 lakh from Oppo company advertisement. The local body had spent Rs 96,573 in2013, Rs 49,300 in 2014, Rs 3.07 lakh in 2015, Rs 1.16 lakh in 2016, and Rs 4.12 lakh in 2017 on promotional activities through advertisements.
