Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is developing a ‘Walkable Street’ project along both sides of the road from Abhyankar Nagar Square to Kachipura Square. As part of this initiative, NMC Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary inspected the ongoing work from Abhyankar Nagar Square to Bajaj Nagar Square on Wednesday (Sept 4).

Present during the inspection were Superintendent Engineer Manoj Talewar, Executive Engineer Alpana Patne, Deputy Engineer Rajiv Gautam, Assistant Engineer Rajendra Jivatode, Senior Urban Designer Harshal Bopardikar, project consultant Bhagyalakshmi Bande from Oasis, contractor Mr. Lalwani, and others.

The ‘Walkable Street’ project aims to develop a 1.2 km stretch along the road from Abhyankar Nagar Square to Kachipura Square. The development includes a pedestrian walkway, a cycling track, plazas, seating arrangements, safety walls, and parking facilities. Currently, 600 meters of the project between Abhyankar Nagar Square and Bajaj Nagar Square are under construction, which was inspected by the Commissioner.

The Commissioner noticed that the project, which has been ongoing for several months, has seen little progress and expressed dissatisfaction over the slow pace of work. He directed the contractor to immediately remove all useless construction materials from the site, maintain cleanliness throughout the area, and ensure complete barricading along the road. Additionally, Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary instructed the project department to issue a show-cause notice to the contractor for the delays.

The ‘Walkable Street’ project will be developed on the same model as the project executed between Kriplani Square and Ajni Square on Wardha Road.
