Nagpur: The year 2015-16 Budget of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is likely to be presented by the end of May. Preparations for the finer points of the Budget are in full swing and in the final stages.

It may be recalled that the elections for Nagpur Metro Region are scheduled to be held on May 17. Most of the candidates belonging to the Ruling Party are expected to emerge winners with a win for 11 candidates a certainty. Moreover, the Ruling Party is making all political and tactical moves to help four other candidates win the elections.

After the elections of Metro Region, the Ruling Party is likely to get activated and focus on presentation of 2015-16 Budget. This Budget will be different from any other budget presented in the past. The Budget will be tabled by the present Chairman of Standing Committee Ramesh Shingare. For all-benefit-oriented Budget, guidance of Mayor Pravin Datke, Ruling Party Leader Dayashankar Tiwari, Senior Corporator Sunil Agrawal, former Chairmen of Standing Committee  along with ruling and opposition office-bearers is worth mentioning.

Interestingly, the Local Body Tax (LBT) is being scrapped from August 3, 2015. With the scrapping of LBT, the NMC will be besieged with finding newer and newer sources of revenue. If the new source of revenue is not found in time or funds from State and Central Government are not received then the development works are likely to take a big hit.
