Nagpur: The Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) on Tuesday announced a slew of decisions to push the development of Second Capital City of Nagpur ahead.

Rs 100 crore for road projects:
The Board of Trusties, in a meeting held today, made available a fund of Rs 100 crore for various road projects to be undertaken by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). This NIT move will strengthen the network of main roads across the Orange City. The Rs 100 crore fund made available by NIT is its share proportionate to funds spent by NMC in development of city roads.

Rs 100 crore for basic amenities in regularized layouts:
In another important decision, the Board of Trusties of NIT announced Rs 100 crore fund for completion of basic facilities in the regularized layouts in accordance with the Maharashtra Gunthewari Developments (Regularisation, Upgradation and Control) Act, 2001. The NIT move comes in the wake of repeated demand from citizens of the layouts. Even though the NIT is making efforts to get the fund from State Government, it has made available Rs 100 crore for development of basic amenities in the layouts from its own coffers considering the interests of the citizens.

Speedy completion of stalled Transport Plaza at Mauza Vanjri:
The Nagpur Improvement Trust, keeping in mind thousands of trucks coming to Nagpur and passing through it, had started construction of a mega Transport Plaza as parking arrangement for the trucks and to ease the traffic problem. The Transport Plaza planned with all the necessary facilities. But for various hurdles in the past the construction work got stalled. Now, several steps have been undertaken to complete the Transport Plaza speedily.

Housing scheme:
The NIT Board of Trusties, with the aim of fulfilling ‘Home for All in Nagpur’ vision of State Government, has decided to demand 12.46 hectares of land from Defence Ministry. The land is available at Ambazari Ordnance Factory Railway Siding. A meeting in this connection was held by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Road Transport and Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari on May 17, 2015 at Ravi Bhavan. The land will be purchased at market rate and will be handed over to NIT for implementing the housing scheme in Nagpur.
