NIT bulldozes 8 illegal religious structures in South Nagpur

Nagpur: The Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) on Tuesday bulldozed eight illegal religious structures in different areas of the city. In its demolition drive, undertaken in Babulkheda, Sakkardara and Manewada areas, NIT started action from 10.30 in the morning and bulldozed eight illegal religious structures by night.

Armed with two JCB machines, three tippers and police protection, NIT’s anti-encroachment teams demolished illegal religious structures including Nagoba Mandir at Ekmat Coop Housing Society, an idol on road, Shri Nagoba Durga Mata Mandir, Kashi Nagar, Nag Mandir at Shrinagar Gruh Nirman Sahakari Sanstha, Shri Ganesh Mandir, Shriram Raghuji Nagar, Shri Durga Mandir of Jambu Nagar Sudhar Samiti, Shiv Mandir, Ayodhya Nagar Road and Hanuman Mandir at Vasant Nagar in Babulkheda, Sakkardara and Manewada jurisdictions. Before commencing the action, NIT sought cooperation and assistance of citizens in its demolition drive.

The task was carried out following High Court order and directives of NIT Chairman Ashwin Mudgal. The drive was led by Superintending Engineer (Headquarters) Sunil Gujjelwar and comprised NIT’s South Division Executive Engineer S N Chimurkar, Divisional Officer (South) Avinash P Badge, Estate Engineering Assistant Ravi Ramteke, NIT’s chief of Anti-Encroachment Department Manohar Patil and police officials and personnel of Hudkeshwar and Ajni police stations.
