As the year approaches its end, the tech savvy lot a peeping into the future of 2016 to look out for some new gadgets. We have picked up few for you that we bet have the potential to rule the tech world in the coming days.

Gionee M5 PlusGionee M5 Plus
Within months of launching the Gionee M5, they have launched a successor with the Gionee M5 Plus. The M5 Plus improves upon the M5 with a 6-inch amoled full HD display, USB Type-C port and a fingerprint sensor. Another interesting addition is what Gionee calls dual charging chips – it offers a one day backup with just one hour of charging. Hardware specifications include octa core Mediatek MT6753 processor, 3GB RAM, 64GB storage (expandable) and a 5,020mAh battery. There is a 13MP primary camera with phase detection autofocus, 5MP front facing camera, 4G, WiFi connectivity and USB host support. The phone is priced at US$385 and we expect it to arrive in India in early 2016.

ZTE Axon MaxZTE Axon Max
ZTE’s latest addition to its Axon series of smartphones features a 6-inch amoled display (1920 x 1080 pixels) and has a USB Type-C port. It is powered by a 64-bit octa core Snapdragon 617 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage and a 4,140mAh battery. There is also a 16MP primary camera with f1.9 aperture, 13MP front facing camera, fingerprint sensor, microSD slot (hybrid dual SIM) along with 4G, WiFi and Bluetooth. All this is inside a 7.5mm thick aircraft-grade aluminum-titanium alloy body that weighs 188 grams. Priced at US$430, it is expected to be available from January 2016.

This is claimed to be the world’s first intelligent wallet as it keeps a track of your valuables also. Made of genuine leather, the wallet is dust proof and connects to your iOS/Android smartphone over Bluetooth. The wallet has 3 credit card slots, 3 business card slots, a passport slot, cash pocket and a boarding pass pocket. Each pocket has a sensor using which the wallet can detect if you have kept your card/passport/cash in the wallet or not and accordingly send you reminder notifications on your smartphone. It also sends notifications if you leave your wallet somewhere too and it is RFID protected so no one can steal your information. It is powered by a replaceable coin battery that lasts up to 6 months. You can preorder one on Indiegogo for US$89 plus shipping. Delivery expected in February 2016.

This budget tablet from Datawind comes with one year of free internet surfing via their own UbiSurfer browser (free internet does not include audio/video streaming or downloads). The tablet has a 7-inch display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. It is powered by a single core 1.3Ghz processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB storage and has a 2,400mAh battery. There is support for voice call, 2G data, microSD slot for storage expansion, dual cameras, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.

This is the budget offering from Microsoft for those looking to buy a Windows 10 smartphone. The Lumia 550 has a 4.7-inch display (1280 x 720 pixels) with a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera. It is powered by a 1.1Ghz quad core Snapdragon 210 processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage and a 2,100mAh battery. Other features include dual SIM slot, microSD slot for expansion (up to 200GB card supported), 4G, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1 and radio.

This one to be the most affordable smartphone with a 5.5-inch display (960 x 540 pixels) running Android 5.1. It comes with a 1.3Ghz quad core Spredtrum processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage and a 2,900mAh battery with a claimed backup of up to 8 hours. Other features include dual SIM, microSD slot for expansion (up to 32GB supported), 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. There is a 5MP rear camera that can do full HD video recording and a 2MP camera for selfies.

The new phablet from Wickedleak is amongst the cheapest smartphones available today with 4GB of RAM. Other hardware specifications are also impressive – octa core Helio X10 processor, 32GB internal storage, 3,000mAh battery and a USB Type-C port. Front camera is 8MP while the primary camera is a 13MP unit. The dual SIM smartphone weighs just 155 grams and runs Android 5.1 (upgradable to Android 6.0 later). Other features include 4G, WiFi, and Bluetooth 4.1. It will be available from 15th January 2016.
