Nagpur News: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Saturday announced 5th May, 2013 as the final date for the new National Eligibility Cum Entrance Examination (NEET) UG (undergraduate) exam.

The online applications for NEET were opened on 1st January. 31st January is the last date for application, beyond which an additional Rs. 1000 will be charged as late fee for applications till 31st January. NEET 2013 is the first single entrance examination for medical and dental colleges in different states across the country. The examination is being held by the Medical Council of India and the Dental Council of India, jointly organised by CBSE.

NEET is a common mode of admission to a total of 335 medical colleges- government and private- across India. States like Maharashtra, Jharkhand and West Bengal have scrapped their State Medical Entrance tests and will be using the NEET merit results for admissions to their medical and dental courses. However, students of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are still on unsure grounds, as the Supreme Court is yet to come with a decision on a case filed by their State Governments asking for exemption from the test.

The test will constitute 180 objective Physics, Chemistry and Biology questions to be solved over 3 hours. The test is to be conducted in English, Hindi and three regional languages. Bhawan’s Bhagwandas Purohit Vidya Mandir (BVM), Civil Lines, has been listed as the official Facilitation Centre for NEET in Nagpur.
