Prakash Gajbhiye, NCP Corporator and Party’s Backward Class Cell State President, has been nominated as MLC by Maharashtra Governor. A total of 12 MLCs from different areas are nominated from Governor’s quota. This time, 10 names have so far been selected out of which 5 each belong to NCP and Congress. Prakash Gajbhiye is one of the 5 NCP leaders. This information was given by Umesh Kashikar, PRO to the Governor.
Talking about names of other MLCs, Satish Lalit, PRO to the Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, said that the official announcement will be made after completion of office procedure.
The City President of NCP Ajay Patil, while commenting on the development, has given his positive consent. Prakash Gajbhiye is one of the firebrand Dalit leaders in city who is winning the Corporation elections wins on his own. Being a highly educated people’s representative, Gajbhiye is Senator in RTMNU Senate. The NCP leader passionately participates in social, cultural and religious activities and is ever ready to extend help to the needy in one way or the other. Gajbhiye has carved out his name across Vidarbha by organizing the 10-day Ganesh Festivity every year at Ramnagar Hilltop. With this achievement behind, Gajbhiye has probably been nominated as MLC from culture quota of Governor.
On the other hand, the local Congress leaders have castigated the party leadership for not nominating a leader from Vidarbha. However, the atmosphere in NMC is cheerful. Now, there is possibility that the civic body will have two MLCs this year in view of Post Graduate Constituency poll.
It may be recalled, in the last Assembly election, Prakash Gajbhiye had contested as Independent candidate from West Nagpur constituency and caused a humiliating defeat for Congress candidate Anees Ahmed. Shortly afterward, Gajbhiye joined NCP.
