NCC’s National Integration Camp concludes with a colorful cultural evening in city

National Integration Camp-II of NCC was conducted by Nagpur Group at Hyderabad House from July 21 to Aug 1, 2014. 600 Cadets of 16 directorates from all over India attended the camp. The grand finale of the camp which was a colorful cultural evening was held on July 31 at Sanskrutik Hall, Katol Road, Nagpur. A colorful rainbow of events, comprising various cultural forms like group dance, group song, solo dance, skit and hand shadows were performed by cadets of different directorates. The chief guest for the evening was Air Marshal P Kanakraj, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, HQ Maintenance Command Nagpur. Senior Air Staff Officer of MC, Air Vice Marshal VS Bharti also graced the occasion with Sanjana Bharti.

The programmes for the evening were selected during the inter-directorate competition held a day prior. The show commenced with a lively dance by the Nagpur group called Ganesh Vandana. This was followed by a melodious solo song in Garhwali language. The wonderful dance form of Lavani was performed by a girl cadet from Aurangabad group whereas the North Eastern Region presented a tribal Naga dance, depicting the tradition of hunting and a fight between tribal warriors. The cadets from God’s own country Kerala performed the Indian martial arts of kalaripayuttu whereas the cadets from Chhattisgarh presented the Mahua dance from the tribal region of Bastar. The cadets from Haryana performed a heart touching skit on the burning issue of female foeticide and suppression of the girl child. The serious atmosphere created by the skit was instantly turned into a joyful one by a cadet from West Bengal, who showcased his amazing art of hand shadows. The speciality of Rajasthan, the Ghoomer dance was presented by a girl cadet wearing the traditional outfit of Ghagra-Choli, while another girl cadet from Kerala sang a melodious song, paying ode to the beautiful landscape of Kerala. The cadets from Tamilnadu concluded the show with a dance-drama ‘Jai Hind’, depicting unity and love for the nation.

The chief guest Air Marshal P Kanakraj handed out the award of best group/directorate to Nagpur Group for standing overall first in the various competitions held in the camp. In his address to the cadets, he expressed great pleasure in getting a chance of interacting with NCC Cadets. He informed the cadets that he was also an NCC Cadet in his school and college days and it was because of NCC that he could achieve what he has. He urged the cadets to use NCC as a stepping stone to a great future. He thereafter interacted with the cadets over dinner which was organized at the camp location, Hyderabad House. The vote of thanks was proposed by Wing Commander MS Choudhary, Deputy Camp Commandant and Commanding Officer of No 2 Mah Air Sqn NCC. The entire programme was supervised by Group Commander of Nagpur Group and Camp Commandant Gp Capt LK Jain.
