Narendra Modi government is “out of touch” with the ground realities: Sonia Gandhi

sonia-cwcNEW DELHI/NAGPUR: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday said that the Modi government has “failed abysmally to match its words with deeds.”

Hitting out at PM Modi, Sonia said that it is “painfully clear that most pledges made by the PM during election campaign were nothing more than ‘hawa baazi’.”

“The Prime Minister has been reduced to unedifying flip-flops creating confusion on what he really stands for,” Sonia Gandhi said while addressing a meeting of the Congress working committee in Delhi.

“The history is being sought to be rewritten with special targeting of Jawaharlal Nehru,” Sonia said.

The CWC, which is the Congress’s highest decision-making body, is discussing the present political situation in the country.

The term of Sonia Gandhi, who has been at the helm for 17 years, will end in December and the party is likely to hold organizational elections next year.

There had been demands within the party earlier that party vice-president Rahul Gandhi should be elevated as the president but the party appears to have decided to make the change at an appropriate time later.

Rahul Gandhi was elevated as vice-president in January 2013 and has been aggressively taking on the Narendra Modi government on a range of issues over the past few months since his return from a sabbatical.

Sonia Gandhi, who took over reigns of Congress in 1998, is already the longest serving president of the party.
