
Nagpur: Ace boxer Alfiya Pathan of Nagpur bagged a silver medal in the Asian Boxing Championships in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on Thursday.
She won the silver in the 80 kg category. She lost the hard-fought final against Kazakhstan’s Dina Islambekova in her lone bout of the championships. She went down 0. 5 to Kazakhstan’s Dina Islambekova in her lone bout of the championships. Previously, Alfiya achieved major success as an Asian Junior Champion (2019, 2022) and secured a silver in the Asian U-22 Boxing Championships 2024.
The Indian women’s team finished with an impressive haul of 10 medals — four gold, two silver and four bronze. However, with limited participation in certain weight categories, including fields of just three boxers, the likes of Lovlina Borgohain (75kg), Pooja Rani (80kg) and Alfiya essentially received medals for just participating.
