Nagpurians’ day out: Thousands run in police marathon

Hundreds of Nagpurians had their day out as they enthusiastically participated in the “Let’s us run for a safe Nagpur” Marathon organized by city police on Sunday, February 26. The event was flagged off at Shivaji Stadium Ground, Police Headquarters, Police Line Takli at 5.30 am. Sponsored by a number of organizations who have come forward voluntarily, the aim of organizing the marathon was to create awareness and strengthen relations between the police and citizens.

The Marathon, sponsored by Mahametro Corporation Limited, Nagpur, L&T, Axis Bank, Cloud Forensic Technology, Spacewood, Haldiram, 93.5 Red FM, Varsha Advertisement, and Orange City Runner, saw over 5000-6000 participants in 3, 5, 10 and 21 km race.

The was organized under the guidance of City Commissioner of Police Dr K Venkatesham. The chief guest was State Director General of Police Satishchandra Mathur. A host of other top police officials including Joint Commissioner of Police Shivaji Bodkhe, Acting Additional Commissioner of Police Ranjankumar Sharma, all Zone DCPs, ACPs, Senior Police Inspectors and other officials and personnel graced the event.


The winners of each category of the Marathon were awarded prizes at the hands of DGP Mathur. Attractive prizes, cash awards, medals, and certificates were distributed to the winners and runners up. All participants were provided with one T-Shirt and snacks.

The route for the marathon was Police Line Takli-Seminary Hills-Futala Lake-Ambazari Lake-Ramnagar-Ravinagar-Futala Lake-Vayusena Nagar-CGO Complex-Gondwana Club-Ramgiri Walkers Street-GPO Square-Ayakar Bhavan-Seminary Hills-Police Line Takli.
