Nagpur top contributor to PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana in State: MSEDCL data

Nagpur: Known for its sweltering summers, Nagpur district is witnessing a surge in applications for rooftop solar panels. Nagpur district has seen more than 18 percent of the total applications the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) has received so far from the State.

As per the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) data, 13,716 persons have applied for the solar panels under the recently launched PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana in Maharashtra. Out of these total applicants, 2,827 are from Nagpur district. According to MSEDCL sources, Nagpur district is the top contributor to the scheme. This shift towards renewable energy is being driven by a combination of factors, with Nagpur’s abundant sunlight proving to be a key advantage, the sources said.

The Government of India has recently launched the scheme with an aim to provide free electricity to households installing solar panels. The initiative allows the beneficiaries to save their electricity bills by installing solar panels. Eligibility criteria for the scheme: The applicant must be a citizen of India and must own a house with a roof to install the solar power system. The applicant must also have a valid electricity connection and have not availed any other subsidiary for solar panels.

How to avail the scheme:- Interested persons can visit the official website pmsuryaghar.gov.in and follow the steps given below:- Click on the direct link for ‘Apply for Rooftop Solar’ on the homepage. An application form will open on the screen. Enter all the details like State name, mobile number, email, electricity distribution company, etc. Login with your registered mobile number. Apply for the Rooftop Solar panel. Upon receiving the approval for feasibility, arrange for any registered vendor in the concerned DISCOM to install the panels.

After completing the installation, submit the plant details and apply for net meter. Once the net meter is installed, the applicant can generate the commissioning certificate from the portal. After the commissioning report is received, the applicant can send in a cancelled cheque and the bank account information using the online portal. Within a stipulated period, the applicant will get the subsidy in his or her bank accounts. Overall, it’s a great investment for environmental conservation and a better future. Govt offering attractive subsidy

The scheme is attracting a large number of people as the Government is offering subsidies to the applicants — both for residential households and group housing societies as well. For residential households, the Government is offering Rs 30,000 per KW up to 2KW and Rs 18,000 per KW for additional capacity up to 3KW. Thus an individual can avail a total subsidy of Rs 78,000 for installing 3KW system.

For group housing society / resident welfare association (GHS/RWA), the Government is offering a subsidy of Rs 18,000 per KW for common facilities, including EV charging, up to 500 KW capacity (at 3 KW per house) with the upper limit being inclusive of individual rooftop plants installed by individual residents in the GHS/RWA.
